Vast Possibilities

26.08.13 Devotional from Message from God:

We believe God wants you to know that … your life is full of possibilities. Don’t be discouraged by what seem like dead ends. Every moment in your life carries infinite possibilities, just waiting to be discovered. Like a vine finding its way even through the slightest openings in rock solid walls, so will you.

As I sat back to think about this, I realised that it is true yet so often I forget this truth. Even scripture outlines is in Jeremiah 29:11 (NKJV) For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Now this may seem simple enough to understand but many times takes quite some work to move this from head knowledge to heart understanding. It is indeed one thing to know that God has my good at heart and to actually believe it. Recently a few of us have been faced with some serious questions about life and choice. We have had to answer one critical question over and over again and I pose it here: Is God still God even when we lack or is He only God when all is well?

A couple of weeks ago I put forth a definition of blessing that I had come across as follows, to be blessed is to have everything that will allow one to succeed including chastisement, rebuke, struggle etc. Even as I know this definition there have been times when the uncertainties and challenges of life have made me wonder what is going on. True our lives are full of vast possibilities. Our lives are as vast as the oceans. Question is, are we able to harness the possibilities or are we so caught up with what we don’t have and need? I am moving toward this goal of absolute faith and trust in the purposes of Papa regardless, despite and in spite of the existing situation.

Everyday I choose to remind myself and actively remember that nothing happens that Papa isn’t aware of, my ways are charted and ordained by Him, even when life has hard times and dark valleys His is the hand that holds mine, leads me, guides me and holds meImage.

The most profound lesson for me has been that I don’t have to understand the situation totally, I just have to know that Papa is in control and seek His face and heart and He will direct me to paths everlasting.

Those practices were understood as “means of grace,” in the language of Law (see above) and, more famously, in that of John Wesley, one of his careful readers. That is, they are activities which open our lives to the action of God in our heart, mind, body and soul, to progressively remake our whole personality. Another name for them—more ancient, and also more in use recently—is “spiritual disciplines,” or “disciplines for the spiritual life.” They train us for leading the life which God intended for us: one which has the power and character to fulfill our calling. They are methods by which we obey the command to “put off” the old person and to “put on” the new person who is in the likeness of Christ. (Col. 3:9-10; Eph. 4:22-24) They are “exercises unto godliness.” (I Tim. 4:7-8) Through them we become capable of doing, with God, all the wonderful things commanded in the Bible, which we know are impossible in our own strength and wisdom.
