New Beginnings…#Jubilee

The last two years we have heard so much about Jubilee in Kenya, I am sure some of us are tired. I will talk about it again here because I believe it is of great importance.

Over the past few days I have had the wonderful opportunity to sit with people from different walks of life and age brackets and I have indeed gained great clarity from these discussions. One common thread has been that we must move from the talk, song and dance about jubilee to the actual reality and out working of the same. We must make good on the promises set before us by doing our part and walking tall.

My understanding of jubilee is Restoration…of course that aspect or understanding is not unique to me. The restoration we need to focus on is not of the material and the like. True jubilee starts with the restoration of each individual to their purpose and relationship with God. This restoration of relationship gives focus, balance and clarity.

Once we grasp the true meaning of jubilee, we will find strength in relationships because we weren’t created to live alone. This new level of understanding will bring change in all aspects of our lives. We will lose some relationships and gain others. We will do new things and forsake some old ways. One of my greatest lessons of 2013 has been that when I change some people won’t be able to adjust to the new me. This will dictate that the only way we can remain connected is if I go back to who I was before. Going back there would mean that the lessons I have learnt have been in vain and am not willing. There is likely to be a fallout…no?

When we understand and connect to the life we are designed to live we connect to our intended purpose and have the impact we are designed for. We will be able to effect change in our personal lives, families, places of work, communities, the nation and the world at large. Our lives are designed to impact and change everyone we meet. Remember how people were healed by simply coming to Christ? Our presence should be an open channel for God to work through regardless of where we are.

Freedom to be all we can be based on our continued connection to Papa himself is true Jubilee…let’s pursue that connection tenaciously and find peace. Every day must be lived on and in purpose.

A330 Magnificence Unwrapped

Watching ‘Ultimate Airport Dubai’ on National Geographic Channel was interesting and an adrenaline fix. Dubai is the hub of the Emirates A330 fleet. The episode I watched had a segment that was interesting. They are doing an engine overhaul of the engine and installing a new engine.

For a start some fast facts…

  • Wingspan
197 ft 10 in / 60.3 m
  • Length
188 ft 8 in / 58.8 m
  • Height
57 ft 1 in / 17.4 m
  • Cabin width
17 ft 4 in / 5.28 m
  • Engines
RR Trent 772B
  • Engine weight
5 tonnes
  • Engine cost
6 million dollars
  • Thrust
71,100 lbs
  • Maximum range
6,750 nautical miles / 12,200 km
  • Cruising speed (Mach)
  • Cruising altitude
41,100 ft

Take a moment and grasp the above figures. This aircraft is huge. If you have seen the 747 and think it is big imagine the A330 is much larger than that. I doubt this plane would be able to fit at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. Then imagine that the Dubai airport is home to more than 20 of these.

The show got even more amazing. Watching the test pilots put the plan through its paces left me totally dazed. The sequence of testing is something like this:

  • Push the plane to the max on the ground
  • Take off at full throttle – please note that no plane does that even when fully loaded
  • Rise to 20,000 feet
  • Test each engine…the test….push engine to idle then slam to full throttle and back to idle…then back to normal
  • Return to base

Now take a walk with me on another lane…this is a man-made object yet we can see the hand of Papa so clearly. Let me explain. This plane is indeed an impressive work of art created by:

  • Harnessing the genius given by Papa to man.
  • Improving on previous successes
  • Constantly pushing the boundaries or pushing the envelope

If this is the work of man’s hand imagine how amazing and profound each of us. Remember we are the creative work of the hand of Papa. He designed each of us to be unique and unbelievably precious to Himself. In understanding this I realise that nothing in this world can ever fully define who I am and what I can do or become other than a true and lasting connection with Papa. There lies the amazing nature of Papa.

When we look at Gen 1:26-28 & 31 there are some simple truths we see…

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all[b] the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of Papa He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and Papa said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Right here I learn a few simple things:

  1. I am created in the image and likeness of Papa. This in and of itself is of no value if I am not able to connect with and stay connected with Him.
  2. I am only truly fruitful in Him and here is where I will multiply, fill the earth and have dominion. To multiply isn’t just about having children…it is to increase the impact of every aspect of our lives and have maximum impact on those we come into contact with
  3. I am a magnificent being, the personal creation of Papa. The thing that gets me over and over is the reality that if man can create something as magnificent as an A330 how much more magnificent am I because I am the creation of Papa Himself? Vs 31 says that Papa saw all that He had created was good and He was happy with it.

Stop and take a moment to marvel at the goodness of Papa and the magnificence of His creation…YOU. As you begin to grasp this truth, live a life in and on purpose to the honour and glory of Papa’s name. Walk in the clear knowledge that your are blessed and highly favoured and you are destined for greatness. One caution here, each of us is different and meant to achieve different things so remember not to aspire to be like someone rather aspire to be like Papa Himself.

Walk in the love and grace of Papa.

#Christmas…Characters around the manger

Matthew 2:2-12 (NKJV)

christmas17Wise Men from the East

2 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”

3 When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.

5 So they said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet:

6 ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
Are not the least among the rulers of Judah;
For out of you shall come a Ruler
Who will shepherd My people Israel.’”[a]

7 Then Herod, when he had secretly called the wise men, determined from them what time the star appeared. 8 And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the young Child, and when you have found Him, bring back word to me, that I may come and worship Him also.”

9 When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. 11 And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

12 Then, being divinely warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed for their own country another way.

Matthew 1:18-23

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. 20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His nameJesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”

22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

Luke 2:8-20

Glory in the Highest

8 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And behold,[b] an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

14 “Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”[c]

15 So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. 17 Now when they had seen Him, they made widely[d] known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. 18 And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. 19 But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.

Luke 1:46-56 The Song of Mary

46 And Mary said:

“My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
48 For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant;
For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
49 For He who is mighty has done great things for me,
And holy is His name.
50 And His mercy is on those who fear Him
From generation to generation.
51 He has shown strength with His arm;
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
52 He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
And exalted the lowly.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things,
And the rich He has sent away empty.
54 He has helped His servant Israel,
In remembrance of His mercy,
55 As He spoke to our fathers,
To Abraham and to his seed forever.”

56 And Mary remained with her about three months, and returned to her house.

#Christmas…what a night

Oh holy night!
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of the dear savior’s birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till he appear’d and the soul felt it’s worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!

Fall on your knees
Oh hear the angel voices
Oh night divine
Oh night when  Christ was born
Oh night divine
Oh night divine

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming
With glowing hearts by his cradle we stand
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming
Here come the wise men from orient land
The king of kings lay thus in lowly manger
In all our trials born to be our friend.

Truly he taught us to love one another
His law is love and his gospel is peace
Chains shall he break for the slave is our brother
And in his name all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise his holy name.

This song inspires me every time I hear…it is a true reflection of my heart

#Christmas…Mary…did she know?

mary (image from

Mary did you know that your baby boy would some day walk on water?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you’ve delivered, will soon deliver you.

Mary did you know that your baby boy would give sight to a blind man?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would calm a storm with his hand?
Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
And when your kiss your little baby, you have kissed the face of God.

Oh Mary did you know

The blind will see, the deaf will hear, the dead will live again.
The lame will leap, the dumb will speak, the praises of the lamb

Mary did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your baby boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb?
This sleeping child you’re holding is the great I am
