Curtain Call

A good friend posted “The Last Words of Alexander the Great” on FB and it triggered a lot of reflection. Today I won’t say much but just post this and say Tafakari’ which means…think deeply about it.

*************************************************

The last wishes of Alexander the Great……… On his death-bed, Alexander summoned his army generals and told them his three ultimate wishes:

  1. The best doctors should carry his coffin …
  2. The wealth he has accumulated (money, gold, precious stones) should be scattered along the procession to the cemetery …
  3. His hands should be let loose, so they hang outside the coffin for all to see !!

One of his generals who was surprised by these unusual requests asked Alexander to explain. Here is what Alexander the Great had to say:

  1. “I want the best doctors to carry my coffin to demonstrate that in the face of death, even the best doctors in the world have no power to heal…”
  2. “I want the road to be covered with my treasure so that everybody sees that material wealth acquired on earth, will stay on earth…”
  3. I want my hands to swing in the wind, so that people understand that we come to this world empty-handed and we leave this world empty-handed after the most precious treasure of all is exhausted, and that is: TIME.

We do not take to our grave any material wealth.

TIME is our most precious treasure because it is LIMITED.

We can produce more wealth, but we cannot produce more time.

When we give someone our time, we actually give a portion of our life that we will never take back. Our time is our life!

The best present that you can give to your family and friends is your TIME.

May God grant YOU plenty of TIME, and may you have the wisdom to give it away so that you can LIVE, LOVE and DIE in peace

“Life Is Short. Live It To The Fullest. GOD BLESS

Today is also reflective because it is the day that Maya Angelou passed on. It is the day a great woman has rested. I haven’t read many of her writings. In fact many times as I started I got distracted or it was too hard to read because of the mirrors of what was Maya Angelouhappening in my heart. However, I have listened to different shows where she has spoken and heard people talk about her and I know that she is one of the great wise women of our generation.

Yet as we have been reminded by the words of Alexander the Great above, we all will one day face our maker and give account for how we have lived our lives and how we have honoured Him. I have no idea what Alexander the Great said or what Maya Angelou will say or what you will say when you meet Him. However, I choose this day to seek to serve and honour God all the days of my life. All the days of my life I will make this choice even when it seems hard and doesn’t make sense. I choose to seek Him all the days of my life.

What is your choice?

Shalom
